Advising

IAPA uses a multi-dimensional structure for academic advising. The structure provides students with comprehensive advising and mentoring.

General Concentration Advising

Members of the IAPA Faculty Committee are available to meet with students during designated IAPA office hours to provide information on:

  • General concentration issues, including selecting specializations, opportunities for experiential learning, pursuing an honors thesis, and more;
  • Which courses count for or meet concentration requirements;
  • Credit applications (for study abroad credits, transfer credits).

Individual Faculty Advising

Each IAPA student is assigned to a Watson faculty advisor. Advising assignments appear on ASK. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisors during office hours to discuss:

  • General concentration issues, including selecting specializations, opportunities for experiential learning, pursuing an honors thesis, and more;
  • Course selection.

Administrative Advising

IAPA staff members are available to meet with IAPA concentrators to help students with issues including:

  • Updating information on ASK;
  • Concentration deadlines and procedures.

Peer Advising

IAPA peer advisors provide valuable insight to IAPA concentrators on curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to engage with international and public affairs.

Policy Mentors

Watson Policy Mentors offer networking, career advice, and mentoring opportunities for MPA students and Watson undergraduates. Policy Mentors are accomplished practitioners in international and public affairs who offer a range of mentoring opportunities to students.
