The Watson Equity in Policy Scholars program is open for consideration to MPA applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have demonstrated leadership experience and a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in public policy, or in global and public affairs
- HBCU, HSI, Tribal College or University Alumni - Be working toward or possess a four-year undergraduate degree from an HBCU, HSI, or a Tribal College or University
- Be a current participant or alumni of public-service oriented pipeline programs such as: Public Policy and International Affairs Program, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute, Congressional Black Caucus Institute
- Be a current participant or alumni of a Federal TRIO Program, serving low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities
- Be a small town or rural student or former participant of a program serving rural American college students, such as STARS (Small Town and Rural Students) College Network programs
- U.S. Veteran or US Military Active Duty Personnel
- First-generation college graduate
- Rhode Island resident
