Juben Rabbani, a Watson Ph.D. fellow from the Department of Anthropology, created a unique art project as a “visual supplement” to his master’s thesis on the impact of the EV transition on the Salton Sea region of California. Now, he has teamed up with Art at Watson to turn it into a multimedia exhibition, which will be on display until the end of summer 2026.

Art at Watson’s exhibition, “Odisha Illuminated: A Celebration of Ritual in a Modern World,” features bold, colorful textiles from the Odisha region of India. It will run through the spring 2026 semester in Stephen Robert '62 Hall.

"Looming in the Shadows of Lodz," a new exhibition by photographer Leslie Starobin, opens at 280 Brook St. on February 13. Sponsored by Art at Watson, the show features Starobin's photographs from a "roots journey" to Poland. Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, "Looming in the Shadows of Lodz" illustrates how traumatic memories are passed down through generations.

A recent Rhode Island Monthly article featured "The Power of Faces," an art exhibit hosted by Watson's Art at Watson Committee and the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies, which showcases portraits of refugees.

A new Art at Watson exhibition, "Andrew Nixon: Inventions and Discoveries," opens September 4, 2023, on the first floor of Stephen Robert '62 Hall at 280 Brook Street. An artist talk will be followed by a reception on September 26, 2023, in room 101 of 280 Brook Street at 5:00 p.m.

For a decade, a committee of faculty, students and staff has brought more than 40 diverse exhibitions to Brown’s Watson Institute, amplifying the institute’s mission of promoting a just and peaceful world.

The exhibition “Breaking Out: Immigrant Art from Stewart Detention Center” offers a first-person perspective on life for individuals from the Caribbean, Latin America and beyond, who have been or are currently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA.
