Fall 2023 UTRA grants create research opportunities at Watson

The Watson Institute funded $10,000 in Undergraduate Research and Teaching Awards to support Brown students collaborating with Watson faculty on research projects during the fall 2023 semester.

For the fall 2023 semester, the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs awarded $10,000 in funding for Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Research and Teaching Awards (UTRAs) to support three faculty-led research projects. Faculty who received these funds include Robert Blair, Tyler Jost and David Polatty.

International and Public Affairs (IAPA) concentrators Aderoju Aderinsola and Annika Singh will conduct research with Robert Blair, the Arkadij Eisler Goldman Sachs Associate Professor of Political Science and International and Public Affairs, on a project entitled “Understanding and Combatting Democratic Erosion in the U.S. and Beyond.”

IAPA concentrators Alex Kim, Maria Trifonova and Hans Xu will conduct research with Tyler Jost, an assistant professor of political science and international and public affairs, on a project entitled “Domestic Origins of International Rivalry.”

IAPA concentrators Bisola Folarin and Emelyn Madrigal will work with Senior Fellow in International and Public Affairs and Director of the Military Fellows Program David Polatty on a “Humanitarian Research Project.”
