Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Rich Smith is a military fellow and visiting scholar at Brown's Watson School of International and Public Affairs. He is an Army officer who most recently served as the Battalion Commander of the 522nd Military Intelligence Operations Battalion in Italy. Rich has completed multiple key developmental and broadening assignments within Army Forces Command, Special Operations Command, US Army Special Operations Command, Intelligence and Security Command, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, where he primarily assisted with foreign internal defense.
Lieutenant Colonel Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Virginia Tech, where he received his commission as an Army Intelligence Officer with a branch detail to Infantry in 2005. Rich also holds a master's degree in business security management from Webster University.
