Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Rich Smith is a military fellow and visiting scholar at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. He is an Army officer who most recently served as the Battalion Commander of 522nd Military Intelligence Operations Battalion. Rich has completed multiple key developmental and broadening assignments within Army Forces Command, Special Operations Command, US Army Special Operations Command, Intelligence and Security Command, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, where he primarily assisted with foreign internal defense.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Virginia Tech, where he also received his commission as an Army Intelligence Officer with a branch detail to Infantry in 2005. Rich holds a master's degree in business security management from Webster University.
