
Verónica Carbajal
Biography
Verónica Carbajal (‘98) (she/her/ella) Verónica graduated with an Environmental Studies degree from Brown University and is from El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. From 2004 to 2024, Vero was a trial and community lawyer at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA). As an attorney, manager and group coordinator, she has represented individuals and community groups displaced or threatened by displacement for public projects, as well as those impacted by pollution, natural disasters, economic crises, the pandemic, real estate and consumer scams, discrimination, and mass shootings. In early 2024, Verónica became a Climate Justice and Civil Rights Organizer at Houston in Action and launched the Sembrando Esperanza Coalition, which is led by residents of some of the hottest, most polluted, historic, BIPOC, low-income, and resilient neighborhoods in El Paso.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (2004). Verónica’s community work includes pro bono work for TRLA, civic engagement (ran for Mayor in 2020 and City Council in 2024, started the Justicia Fronteriza PAC), and animal rights. She is also a self-published bilingual children's book author and her family’s story was recently featured in HBO MAX’s “God Save Texas” series. She is currently working on a couple of books, including one about grief, addiction and spirituality.
