Biography

Tyler Cerrato is a national defense fellow, visiting scholar, and master’s of public affairs student at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. He is a Marine officer who recently served as the logistics officer for 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment. Previously, he served with the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, and 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment. He has operational experience in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Tyler is a graduate of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and Marine Corps Command and Staff College distance education program. Tyler received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Iona College and his master’s degree in logistics and supply chain management from the Florida Institute of Technology.

Research

Revisiting Civ-Mil Relations and the Clausewitzian Trinity. This research will look into the why and how military decisions are made in the United States.  This research will look at accepted operational planning doctrine used by the Department of Defense and how operational failure is directly tied to ill-defined problem framing and lack of rigorous analysis.

Analyzing the demography and composition of the United States Marine Corps.  This research will delve into the "why" and "why not" of joining the Marine Corps based on geography and socio-economic data. The goal of this research is to strengthen the quality of enlisted recruits and officer candidates.
