Kim is Republic of Korea Army Engineer officer, commissioned in 2005.He served from the tactical level to the strategic level of command. Recently, he worked in ROK JCS in charge of the subcommittee of the Wartime Operational Control Transition Group for two years. He also served in ROK-US Combined Division as an engineering planning officer. The biggest lesson for Kim was that, even an engineering officer, you can lead an organization with strategic insight not just focusing on function. Kim studied in Kuwait for one year where he developed insight into the world from a different perspective, not just looking at the world through the United States. In 2012 he was deployed to South Sudan.
