The competition, “Smart City Challenge,” will award $40 million to one mid-sized city that “puts forward bold, data-driven ideas to improve lives by making transportation safer, easier, and more reliable” while taking an integrated approach public safety, public services, and energy use. The Challenge is intended to address how emerging transportation data, technologies, and applications can be integrated with existing systems to address transportation challenges as mid-sized cities grow.
