Gulsima Young

MPA Student

Biography

Gulsima Young recently earned a bachelor’s degree in informatics and environmental studies from the University of Washington. She worked as a project development specialist for the campus sustainability fund at the University of Washington where she provided support for student-led initiatives that cultivated environmental justice, equity, resilience and well-being on campus. Young is interested in the intersection of environmental justice, public policy and sociology. She hopes to explore how systemic patterns of discrimination are exacerbated by policy measures and how participatory policymaking can be integrated into policy systems. Young is from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, and grew up in Pullman, Washington.
