Master of Public Affairs
Cultivating and elevating future global leaders to address pressing societal challenges
The Master of Public Affairs (MPA) is a rigorous, one-year program that prepares students to be public policy leaders, analysts and advocates in government, politics, and the nonprofit and private sectors, both in the U.S. and abroad.
Our MPA students gain key professional skills for an impactful career in public affairs — in just one year.
Watson P.h.D. Fellows
A Ph.D. with a difference
The Watson Institute's Ph.D. Fellows program offers fully-funded year long research fellowships and access to significant research funds to support training and research for Brown University Ph.D. candidates in the social science disciplines. The program includes pre-dissertation and dissertation fellowships in the areas of development, governance, and security. Our community of fellows participate in a regular speaker series, enroll in Watson graduate courses, and engage with undergraduates and faculty in International and Public Affairs. Additionally, Ph.D. students who are not fellows also have the opportunity to apply for Watson Ph.D. Research Funds to support research, travel, and fieldwork.
Postdoctoral Program
Offering a range of postdoctoral opportunities for outstanding young scholars in the social sciences.
Central to our mission is the Watson Institute Postdoctoral Program, which supports young social scientists conducting research related to the Institute’s three core thematic areas: development, governance, and security. Watson Postdoctoral Research Associates receive up to a two-year appointment to advance their research, participate in a regular Work in Progress Seminar, and teach one undergraduate seminar a year.
