Apply Now for ’25-26 Watson Ph.D. Fellow Program
The Ph.D. Fellows program is seeking applications for the 2025-2026 academic year for up to six pre-dissertation fellowships from Brown graduate students in the social sciences in their 1st and 2nd year. Fellows are expected to TA one semester, stay active in the Fellows program, and are eligible to request up to $5K in research funding. The fellowships are supported by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs.
Applications are open for up to two Watson Ph.D. fellowships that will provide a full year of support (stipend, health fees, and tuition) to enrolled 5th or 6th year Brown University Ph.D. students in Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, or Sociology working in the core areas of Development, Governance, or Security. Students will be on fellowship for one year at the end of which they are expected to successfully complete their dissertation.
Brown University Ph.D. students in Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, and Sociology are eligible to apply for research funding. Preference will be given to students working in Watson’s core areas of Development, Governance, or Security. Recipients are expected to remain affiliated with the Ph.D. Fellows program throughout their time at Brown by participating in events, training opportunities, research symposium, and more. All funding recipients are required to submit a short paper and present at an annual research workshop.
