Flattening the COVID-19 Curve in Dane County

The Dane County Criminal Justice Council has coordinated efforts of local officials to decrease the average daily population of the Dane County Jail by over 40% since January 1, 2020, in response to COVID-19. The Justice Lab has a data agreement to map trends in jail population and COVID-19 cases among incarcerated persons and staff in efforts to “flatten the curve.”

The focus of this proposal is to understand the extent of the reciprocal relationship between infections and deaths from COVID-19 among those incarcerated, correctional staff and the larger community over time across the U.S.
