Naomi Nesmith recently earned her bachelor’s degree from Brown University with dual concentrations in international and public affairs on the development track and literary arts. During an internship with College Access: Research and Action (CARA), she designed and conducted a qualitative research study investigating the perceived return on investment of college from 49 low-income NYC students of color. She was acknowledged as a contributor in the subsequent report “Is College Worth It–For Me? Young People’s Lived Understandings of Postsecondary Value” published by CARA after the completion of the study. Naomi is proficient in Spanish and is learning Portuguese. She hopes to work on critical issues related to intergenerational poverty and educational inequity. She is a Milken Scholar and is the recipient of the John & Mary Hazen White and SPRINT Fellowship Awards. She hopes to publish her debut poetry collection “The Sky is a Landmark, Too” next year. She is from Brooklyn, New York.
