Jen Daskal is a Partner at Venable, LLP, where she supports clients on issues at the intersection of technology, national security, and public safety.  Prior to joining Venable, Jen was the Deputy Homeland Security Advisor in the White House and previously worked at the Department of Homeland Security, where was, among other things, the Acting General Counsel overseeing over 3,000 attorneys across the litigation, cyber, and law enforcement divisions. 

Previously, Jen was a tenured professor at American University Washington College of Law, where she taught criminal procedure, national security, and cyber law, and founded and served as the Faculty Director of the Tech, Law and Security Program.  Earlier in her career, she was counsel to the Associate General Counsel for National Security at the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, Senior Counterterrorism Counsel at Human Rights Watch, and a Staff Attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia.

Jen has published extensively, including in the Yale Law Review, Harvard Journal of Law and National Security, and Stanford Law Review Online, as well as several non-academic publications, including The New York Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She is a graduate of Brown University (’94), Harvard Law School, and Cambridge University, where she was a Marshall scholar.
