In Deep: The FBI, The CIA and the Truth About America’s “Deep State,” W.W. Norton, 2020. Wrote book that refuted President Trump’s claims of an American “deep state.” Selected as a New York Times Editors’ Choice.
Beyond War: Reimagining America’s Goals and Ambitions in a New Middle East, Viking-Penguin, 2013. Wrote book critiquing the post-9/11 U.S. effort to counter Islamic extremism. Book named a New York Times Editors’ Choice.
A Rope and A Prayer: A Kidnapping from Two Sides, Viking-Penguin, 2010. Co-Wrote book with wife, Kristen Mulvihill, describing Taliban captivity. Book named a Washington Post best non-fiction book of 2010 and New York Times Editors’ Choice.
Endgame: The Betrayal and Fall of Srebrenica, Europe’s Worst Massacre Since World War II, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York, 1997. Wrote book on the mass execution of eight-thousand Bosnian Muslim men and boys.
